October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month — But for Me, It’s Personal
Every October, we see pink ribbons, fundraising walks, and messages of hope fill our timelines. It’s a month dedicated to awareness, strength, and survivorship.
But for me, this month is more than a symbol. It’s sacred. It’s deeply emotional.
I lost my mother to breast cancer. She was strong, wise, deeply loving, the heartbeat of our family. Watching her fight that battle was one of the most heartbreaking and humbling experiences of my life.
Yet what I remember most vividly from that season wasn’t just the fear or the hospital visits, it was the caregiving.
The Untold Story: Caregivers in the Shadow of the Battle
Being a caregiver to someone battling breast cancer is a role that comes without training or preparation. You show up because you love them. You give your all physically, mentally, and emotionally.
You stay strong in moments when your heart is breaking. You put their needs first, again and again.
But too often, caregivers are forgotten. They suffer in silence. They neglect their own well-being while trying to hold everything together. I know this because I lived it.
Turning Pain Into Purpose: Why I Started RosaleeCares.org
After losing my mom, I knew I couldn’t let her legacy fade into silence. I wanted to honor her life by helping others walk that same hard, sacred road.
That’s why I founded RosaleeCares.org, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting caregivers of breast cancer patients.
Our mission is simple:
To ensure that the people caring for loved ones through cancer are seen, supported, and strengthened.
Through RosaleeCares, we offer:
- Emotional wellness resources to help caregivers manage stress and grief.
- Respite support and encouragement to prioritize self-care.
- Community spaces for connection and shared healing.
Above all, we remind caregivers that their well-being matters too.
How You Can Help Care for the Caregivers
If you’ve ever watched someone you love battle cancer — if you’ve ever been the one holding it all together behind the scenes — then you understand why this mission means so much.
Here’s how you can make an impact:
- 💗 Share this message. Help us reach caregivers who need to hear they’re not alone.
- 💗 Tag a caregiver. Remind someone that their strength is seen and appreciated.
- 💗 Donate if you’re able. Your contribution helps us expand our programs and resources.

Because their healing matters, too.
Carrying Her Legacy Forward
Everything I do through RosaleeCares is in honor of my mother, her strength, her compassion, and her unwavering love.
This October, let’s not just raise awareness.
Let’s raise compassion.
Let’s care for the caregivers.
With love and gratitude,
Rosalee Henry
